Storing Holiday Decorations
The holidays are just about over, and it’s almost time to pack up and store all of your decorations. So sad! Storing decorations can be frustrating at times, but here are a few simple hacks to store your decorations to keep them safe and looking good for next year:
Lights
Trim down a shoebox lid and wrap the lights around it. Then place the lid with the lights in the box. If you have longer strands of lights, consider using a hose reel from a hardware store to keep your lights tangle-free. Because let’s face it, nothing is more frustrating than trying to detangle lights!
Ornaments
Hot glue cups to a flat piece of cardboard. Then place the ornaments inside the cups and stack these in a plastic in. The cups help keep the ornaments safe from scratches and breakage. Another great option is to pack ornaments in used egg cartons, which can also be easily stacked into storage bands.
Wrapping Paper
Buy a cheap plastic garment bag and place rolls of wrapping paper inside. Then, put a hanger inside, zip it up, then hang it!
Garland
Carefully take the garland from wherever it is being displayed and wrap it around your arm or someone else’s arm. Make sure it doesn’t get tangled and place it in a plastic storage bin.
Wreaths
Wreaths can easily be stored in hatboxes, or even hung up in the back of a closet. If you plan to hang the wreath up, make sure to cover it in a plastic bag to keep it safe throughout the year.
Once all of your decorations are safely packed up, you will need to find a place to store them for the year. The best place is to store your decorations where they can be shielded from the elements, like a garage or a Lafayette Storage Unit.
