Make the Most of a Small Space with These Fun Garden Ideas

I love gardening, I don’t exactly have a green thumb, in fact I’m pretty sure the plants in the nursery shutter when I come by. It’s not entirely my fault, I move around a lot and it’s been a while since I lived anywhere with a yard and even longer since I lived anywhere with a garden. Still I’m a fan of things green and watching them grow, so I always want to have a garden even though it’s not practical, or even possible, given where I live. So here are some fun project ideas for those of you who, like me, have an itch to watch things grow.

 

If you have access to a small yard or even a small patio, then you’re in luck. You have a lot of fun and attractive options from which to choose. One of my personal favorites is the close shoe organizer thing hanging garden this one is kind of quirky, a lot of fun, and easy to make. Depending on the plants you want to grow, this one will also work very well inside. Follow the link for more detailed instructions, but this project can be as easy as hanging the organizer and finding a good absorbent soil. Just make sure to place a wide enough trough at the bottom and see how the system will drain before you start planting.

When you’re working with a limited space it helps to think vertically. Whether it’s inside or outside, you can use a cart, tiered storage boxes, or wooden planters to make the most of the space you have; but if this all sounds like too much effort, or if you don’t have enough space, the one pot herb garden is the way to go. This project works great inside or out and is as easy as baking a cake, just assemble the ingredients— a Pot, a something to catch the drainage, potting soil, and herbs appropriate to the space.
